Grupo Bimbo – expanding in the US
Mexican bakery giant Grupo Bimbo is to spend US$25m on re-purposing a facility in the US state of Georgia.
The plant will be used by the US arm of its Bimbo QSR division, which supplies quick-service restaurants.
Bimbo will upgrade an existing 100,000 sq ft speculatively-built building. It said some 73 jobs will be created when the new processing facility in Valdosta opens.
The site will produce hot dog, hamburger and sandwich buns for customers across the south-eastern part of the US.
Al Gomez, general manager and vice president of Bimbo QSR’s US division, said: “We are very excited to partner with the state to bring this manufacturing site to Georgia, and to collaborate in the economic development of this area.
“This investment will allow us to serve our customers more effectively in the south-east region of the US.”
Announcing its financial results for the first quarter of 2021 yesterday (28 April), Bimbo recorded sales of MXN79.13bn (US$3.96bn), a 6.6% increase on the figure for the corresponding period in 2020. Adjusted EBITDA was up 19.6% year-on-year at MXN10.65bn.
